{Tile Baseboard in Our Kitchen}

A kitchen, like a bathroom, needs easy cleaning so we went ahead and did replace the wooden baseboard with a tile baseboard. Husband Pieter did do it himself, again using Bright Snow White tiles from Home Depot. At Complete Tile Collection NYC New York they do have a 5-½" high Normandy Baseboard by Vermeere Ceramic Tile Molding. That might have worked too. Their Skirting Baseboard is almost 1" too short for replacing our wooden baseboards. We were restricted to size.
Our floor is white tile from Italy that we did bring back home with us when moving back to the USA.
The Snow White tiles from Home Depot do go well with them.
Our window sills in the kitchen and veranda are custom made from Corian.
Calla lilies we received from dear friends; in memory of our sweet Sacha-girl. See post: {R.I.P. SACHA GIRL}
The other side of our bay window area, where the table is.
Okay, okay I lie down for you on my belly—to show you more in detail how it looks...
Very shiny and easy to clean; I am quite happy with them!
You can see the grout from the floor tiles being reflected into the baseboard tiles.
Husband Pieter has been working on his belly a lot... He even managed to screw a backer board with tiles onto the kick space that is under the Miele dishwasher. So it can be easily removed if needed.
The kick space under the cabinets is now also entirely with a tile baseboard.
Do you also have a tile baseboard in your kitchen?

  2. I think the tile baseboard add a lot of interest to the kitchen, and looks great with the tiled floor. On another not, your question about the paper museum in Amalfi, I am pretty sure it is dated at least 1745, so before the one in Florence. Amalfi was a sea power with a wide network of trade routes, and a high demand for paper to document the transactions made between the merchants. Therefore the paper industry really took off back then. thanks for always stopping by my blog

      Sure this tile baseboard looks great with the Italian floor tiles and is so easy for cleaning. Just figured out more about the Amalfi paper production, as far back as the 12th century that is: http://www.world-guides.com/europe/italy/campania/amalfi/amalfi_museums.html
      Oh, Italy has such a rich history and even this part was intertwined with the Byzantium, even part of it. Lovely architecture too.

  21. Lieve Mariette,

      Lieve groetjes,
      Mariette

      Such jobs are a LOT of work; especially in the corners. We could have ordered in NYC some easier ones but than they would not have fit under the counter... There is always a catch. Great jobs for winter though and ready for the spring to enjoy. Indeed, our friend gave us something very special with lots of attention. I did vacuum the perched K&H Kitty Sill Deluxe cat beds and launder all three of them. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000795XMY
      Sacha did claim one for her own. Kind of said knowing that her hairs are now being taken off forever. These Kitty Sil Deluxe are so convenient with their zipper and elastic; laundering them is a snap.
      Hugs to you and your two precious boys.

  25. Thank you for taking time to find me and help with my Bloglovin after reading my comment on Ayu's Whitenroses blog, that was just the sweetest thing to do! I did import my blogs from Google to Bloglovin but some have fallen through the cracks, I am not sure why. I have been checking in on Ayu as she was not posting for a while so I left extra messages on old posts, when she left me a comment I popped by to leave another and I was surprised to see she had been posting. When I tried to manually add her it showed her already in my list but her blog posts had not come through.
    In answer to your question, we do not have tile baseboards in our kitchen, we just installed oak wood floors and we have the painted the old wood molding that was there black, it looks quite nice. We do have porcelain tiles in our bathrooms and my husband took the floor tile and cut them to the right size for the molding trim so it matches nicely too. Your tiles look beautiful also and they must be so easy to clean! Lovely blog, so happy I could meet you. Thank you again for your sweet concern. ~Diane
